What is Holotropic Breathwork?
The word ‘Holotropic’ is derived from Greek and means “moving towards wholeness”. Holotropic Breathwork, developed by Dr. Stanislav and Christina Grof, is a form of self-exploration based on the drive inside each of us to become whole. The principle that we can access our own potential and capacity for healing, insight and wisdom is the basis for Holotropic Breathwork
In Holotropic Breathwork, participants move into a non-ordinary state of consciousness through deep, fast breathing supported by strong, evocative music. The facilitators create a safe and supportive environment and an provide explanation and understanding of the types of experience that may occur.
Holotropic Breathwork is a non directed inner process. The experiences that arise during the session are from movements within the participant’s own psyche and with full expression participants gain new insights into themselves and the nature of reality.
Holotropic Breathwork is an adventure in self-exploration, self-recovery, and self-discovery. Many people find that this work supports and deepens other forms of healing such as psychotherapy, 12-step recovery, or meditation practices. Others will use it to explore life changes or challenges, and/or to seek guidance on their spiritual path.
Participants come from all walks of life.
What happens at a Workshop?
The workshops start with a welcome mediation and an introduction to the theory and practice of breathwork, offering a chance for people to ask questions and to get to know each other.
The breathwork takes place in pairs. When the one partner “breathes”, the other will “sit” for him/her. In the next session, the partners swap these roles. Each session lasts approximately three hours. Holotropic Breathwork is a simple method-free process of finding your own inner wisdom. Participants are simply encouraged to allow whatever is happening to emerge as they breathe deeper and faster. Occasionally energy release work or bodywork is needed to release a blockage and the facilitators will provide assistance if requested.
After each breathing session there is time to capture the experiences through artwork and mandala drawing. During group |
